Pricha

A youth hadracha (leadership) course

Join Netzer for the hadracha (leadership) journey of a lifetime. Netzer’s youth hadracha course is a yearly leadership and personal development program for participants in school years 10.

Pricha provides you with the skills and knowledge necessary to lead on a Netzer camp, become leaders in your community, and assume the role of activists in wider society. There are three cores to our hadracha training:

  • Skills: To become skilled and diverse youth leaders.

  • Chinuch (Education): Gaining knowledge to be educators on topics of Judaism, Zionism and Social Justice. As well as reflecting on ourselves and the world.

  • Experience: Practical experiences of planning and running activities for each other and younger kids.

Hadracha, from the root derech (path), is about working on ourselves to be dugma ishit (personal examples) to those around us. This course helps strengthen your leadership skills and ability so you can grapple with your own identity, inspire and educate others on areas you are passionate about and create tangible changes in your communities.

Pricha is essential if you want to be a madatz (junior leader) on Netzer camps.

  • “Becoming a leader [at Netzer] gave me skills that helped me in all aspects of life. After the experience, I applied everything I had learned to help me at school and at work. The leadership and teamwork skills even gave me the opportunity of a promotion at work, and now I have become a crew trainer all because of my Netzer experience!” - Memphis, Hadracha participant 2021

There are so many different reasons to do Pricha:

    • To acquire necessary skills for leading children and educating others

    • To connect with, and learn more about, your Judaism and Zionism

    • To meet other young and passionate Progressive Jews in Sydney and around Australia

    • To improve your resume with leadership qualifications and first aid training

    • To gain volunteer experience (includes gaining hours for Duke of Edinburgh volunteering requirements)

  • Informal Education: This is the distinctive educational style of youth movements. Informal education is centred on the chanichimot’s (participant’s) personal and group journey. At Netzer, we practice experiential and values-based education.

Jewish and Zionist Leadership: Develop skills and knowledge to be an informed Jewish leader. Options to learn how to use Jewish texts to educate and challenge chanichim, critically speak about Israel, inspire passion for Judaism and more!

Tikkun Olam: We believe strongly in inspiring leaders to carry out their values in the world. Develop skills to enact social action, as well as empower others to do the same.

Relationship building: Interpersonal and group relationships are at the core of what it means to be a youth movement, and developing these relationships is key to the madrich’s (leader’s) work. Learn how to work with young people to build safe, productive and world-changing relationships!

First Aid: Become qualified in first aid or mental health first aid so you have the resources to respond to a physical or mental medical emergency.

  • At the bare minimum, chanichim (participants) are expected to attend a two-hour program every three Sundays and the Hadracha seminar dates TBC.
